Albury Estate Newsletter
A very mild if not a bit wet last month or so has seen the good fishing continue. The spring water from Silent Pool that supplies Weston fishery has been running strongly since November which is a lot earlier than normal. Normally we see the springs start running in January or February. All this will set us up nicely for next summer. The water clarity at Weston is fantastic but with poor light levels spotting fish can be difficult.
The fish are in fantastic condition at the moment and really fighting well which is a credit to our fish farm manager Richard King who continues to produce some stunning quality fish. As well as some rainbow trout we have stocked some really nice large brown trout into all lakes. See photographs below.
Some exciting news
Albury Estate Fisheries will again be sponsoring the England Rivers Team in the Home Internationals in 2020 which I am excited to be part of.
This will take place in June and we will be competing against Scotland, Ireland and Wales on the River Don in Aberdeenshire. This is mostly self-funded, and we are currently looking to do some fund-raising in the form of auctioning off hosted days fishing, fly selections and accommodation.
The auction will open February 1st and end March 15th 2020. See lots below. Last year’s auction helped us raise just over £1,200 which was fantastic and really helped me and the team in competing in Ireland. Your support and interest in this is really, really appreciated.

Work wise on the fishery we have been busy on the river repairing sections of river (see pics below) that have been damaged during the flooding. Where we can we will use natural materials. Willow posts are great as they usually start to root which helps support the banks. The weaving material we use between the posts is mostly willow and chestnut. We will then back-fill and plant the edges up with reeds which will also help support the banks and provide cover for the fish.
You may have also noticed that we have installed rod rests with clips at Vale End fishery and Powdermiils (see pics below).
Other News
Other news is that we have added three new Teach In days for 2020. They include 3 hours tuition with Peter Cockwill, tackle hire if needed and a 1 fish ticket. The cost is £48 per person and the dates are 21st March, 25th April and 23rd May.
Visit the web site to book or contact Cameron by email. These days are ideal for beginners just starting out or for novices wishing to brush up on their skills.
Lodge Update
Things are still on track with the new lodge with plans to be open in April 2020. There will be a new entrance and car park next to the lodge and all day ticket anglers must report to the lodge to buy their ticket or collect pre purchased tickets and membership before being allowed access to fish Weston and Vale End. Season rods will be able to access all fisheries without the need to come to the lodge.
As usual I would like to wish you all our best regards, Happy New Year and Tight lines.
