Remember Trout are members of the Salmonid group which places them at the top of the list of foods containing OMEGA- 3 Essential Fatty Acids. Humans cannot synthesise Omega 3 fatty acids, so obtaining a source is important for healthy metabolism and scientifically has proven to reduce risk of cardio vascular disease and can also improve mental health. Recent research suggests eating Omega 3 in trout reduces the risk of dementia and cognitive decline.
The best sources of Omega 3 are from Salmonids then sardines, herring and mackerel. Four portions of tuna have the same effect as one portion of trout. Eight portions of cod or haddock have the same Omega-3 content as one portion of trout.
The Omega3 is found in the oils of the trout’s flesh. Not to be confused with Omega 6, this is found in nuts, cereals and vegetable oils.
The trout reared for the Albury and Syon Park Fisheries are fed using the best diets sourced only from sustainably managed sea fisheries. Only diets containing Non GMO ingredients are used.
So keep healthy and keep eating trout. – another tip from Richard King, Albury Estate Fish Farm manager.
