January 2019 Newsletter
I would like to start off by wishing you all a very Happy New Year and hope you are looking forward to another year at Albury with lots of things happening, most noticeably the erection of our new fishing lodge which should start in the next couple of months with a view to finishing towards the end of the year.
This will be a real step forward for us, with inside the lodge offering a large club room with seating and wood burner as well as kitchen, toilets and small tackle shop/office.
As well as a new lodge you will see a greater variety of fish stocked into the lakes with more spartic, tiger, blue and maybe even some golden trout which will complement the superbly conditioned rainbow and brown trout that fish farm manager Richard King produces.
The spartic trout (see picture below) have proved very popular with anglers as there are very few fisheries in the UK that stock them.

POWDER MILLS IMPROVEMENTS
This winter we have been working hard to improve the river at Powdermills particularly the south side which had become too wide and silty. By narrowing the river channel it is hoped that this will encourage the river bed to scour itself out creating more depth and better fish holding properties. It’s slow work but over time we hope you see the rewards. The pictures below shows the work done so far.
Tactics for the months ahead are not overly complex with floating and intermediate lines being all that is needed. Small to medium sized lures (damsel, cats whisker, fritz patterns,) have accounted for large numbers of fish but it is always worth fishing and having in your fly box a selection of buzzers and small nymphs, fish these when the takes dry up on the lures.

ENGLAND RIVERS FLY FISHING TEAM
Some other exciting news is that Albury Estate Fishery is proud to be sponsoring the England Rivers Fly Fishing Team in this year’s Home International on the River Agivey in Ireland which I am fortunate to be part of. This will take place in July where we will compete against Scotland, Ireland and Wales with each team consisting of 6 members. This is largely self-funded so as a team we are looking to do some fund-raising. So with this in mind I am auctioning off a number of days fishing which will be hosted by members of the England Team. I have listed the lots below and the auction will open February 1st until March 15th.

The day will be hosted by Cameron Craigs who will show you the water and accompany you for the day. To be taken April to October 2019. Guide price £250 (starting bid £150). Sealed bids only to Cameron. [email protected]

To be taken May to September 2019. Guide Price £120 (starting bid £80). Sealed bids only to Cameron.
Finally I would like to thank you for all your support and hope you have enjoyed fishing with us in 2018 and look forward to seeing you in during 2019 and welcoming you to the new member’s lodge.
