March 2015 Newsletter
Well it’s certainly been a long winter but just recently there are signs around the fishery that spring is just around the corner with daffodils in flower and birds singing.
The fishing the past month has been top quality with 200 plus fish being recorded per week between Weston, Vale End and Powdermills. The more settled and milder weather we have received recently has certainly helped encourage anglers out onto the water and they have been rewarded with some fine fishing with a number of anglers catching 4 to 6 fish per visit.
Some larger fish have also been caught including an 11lb Rainbow for Romuald Damaz, a 9lb 8oz rainbow for Dave Newman, a 9lb 8oz rainbow for Roy Lyu (below) and a 10lb 2oz rainbow for Paul Walker.
Many of the fish caught recently have been taken by anglers working small weighted lures on a floating line and long leader or with an intermediate or slow sinking line. This method will continue to produce good numbers of fish over the coming months. However moving forward with hopefully a slight increase in daytime temperatures will mean anglers looking to be more imitative with their fly choice. Small buzzers and nymphs should score well.
Also look out for signs of rising fish, small emerger patterns or klinkhammer style patterns should produce.
MARCH IS A NEW YEAR
March 2015 see next seasons tickets become available to purchase either on-line or on the bank (this is a month earlier than in previous years and these ticket will effectively be valid for thirteen months). For March only anglers will be able to buy 2015 tickets at 2014 prices. Use of the tickets will be allowed from the day of purchase. This also applies to season rod membership as well as day tickets.
This makes March the perfect time to come fishing: Best pricing and knowing that Fish Tokens will be valid for 13 months.
START THE WEEK WITH A MONDAY FISH
Other news is that from April 1st we will be running a reduced day rod membership of £8 every Monday through the coming season. Only available on the bank and not on-line. Excludes holidays.
April 1st will also see Powdermills fishery return to a 2lb 8oz average meaning 1 token per fish as opposed to the current 2 tokens per fish. Our survey last year confirmed that this was the wish of our anglers. Anglers will continue to find a selection of larger fish on all our waters.
The river season will start on April 1st. River fishing is open to day ticket anglers at Vale End, Weston and Powdermills. As well as stocked fish the river holds a thriving population of wild brown trout. Vale End upper river section has seen banks improved and weirs enhanced to improve the fishing. Early season on the river will see limited surface activity so small weighted nymphs will work best.
Finally a reminder to anglers to keep an eye on our website for updates on fishing conditions and particularly daily ice alerts should we receive a sustained cold period.
