September 2015 Newsletter
Well we are already into September and it’s hard to believe the summer is almost at an end. From a fishery point of view it will be great to see autumn arrive and with this cooler temperatures and hopefully some rain. It’s been a tough summer on the fishery with an extremely hot July which saw some lakes water temperatures rise in excess 20 degrees Celsius, which made fishing extremely difficult. A high percentage of the fish caught during July and August were taken from Wood Lodge pool at Weston and Vale End which offered reliable sport even on the hottest of days. Looking forward anglers should expect the fishing to improve in all lakes given sustained cooler periods.
The fishing at the moment is definitely improving with many anglers taking 4+ fish in a day. Floating lines are still all that is needed. A wide range of flies are catching at the moment and it’s nice to see some surface action with daddy long legs, sedge and hoppers working effectively. Other patterns to have with you include a variety of weighted damsel patterns (my favourite is the BFD and hothead versions) gold head daddy longlegs, cats whisker and orange fritz. It also pays to have a selection of small nymphs and buzzers to use when the fishing gets tough. Fish these on long fine leaders for the best results.

With the tricky summer conditions anglers have found catching the larger fish tough but one or two anglers have bucked the trend, like David Newman who caught a very chunky 10lb 8oz rainbow from Wood Lodge pool on a cats whisker and Ray Baldwin who caught an 8lb 8oz rainbow on a damsel pattern also from Wood Lodge.

Syon Park currently has excellent water clarity and the fishing is steadily improving every week as the water cools. Three lovely Rainbows taken in the last week between 6 and 7lbs for Roy Lyu, Simon West and Andreas Halasi. There are also some large Browns and some Blue Trout to be caught as well.

WINTER SEASON RODS – please remember winter season rods are now available and start from October 1st effectively giving you six months fishing until the end of March. These can be purchased on-line or on the bank at a cost of £110. The winter season rod offers great value for money and enables you to fish during the periods when the fish are most active and the fishing is at its best.
WESTON MAIN LAKE – we will be draining down Weston main lake in the coming weeks. Wood Lodge pool and Millhouse lake will remain open during this period.
REDUCED DAY ROD MEMBERSHIP – we are still continuing to run a reduced day rod membership of £8 on Mondays and Tuesdays which is proving very popular with anglers.
