Fishery Update 3rd Feb

Fishing over the last few weeks has been great fun, with plenty of fish coming to the net and some cracking specimens in the 5lb–8lb bracket. As the colder weather has crept in, the fish have been sitting deeper, especially first thing in the morning, before gradually moving up in the water as the day warms. This is where having two rods really comes into its own — one set up with a sinking or intermediate line and the other with a floater — making it easy to stay in touch with the fish as they move in the water column.

Bright lure patterns and egg flies have been doing most of the damage, but there have also been times when buzzers, diawl bachs and small nymphs have fished extremely well. On busier days the fish soon wise up and become less keen on chasing a moving fly, so slowing things down and fishing static under an indicator can be the key to keeping the takes coming. Extra pressure also tends to push the fish further out into the lake, so being able to cast a decent length of line can definitely pay dividends.

On Tuesday 10th March at 6.30pm, we’re delighted to welcome Peter Cockwill to the fishing lodge for what promises to be a cracking evening.

Peter’s talks are always relaxed, entertaining, and full of useful nuggets, covering everything from small stillwater fishing and destination adventures, to whatever fishing questions you’ve been itching to ask. Nothing too formal — just good stories, good advice, and plenty of laughs along the way.

The evening costs £8, which includes a beer or soft drink, so all you need to bring is your curiosity and enthusiasm. These nights are always popular and great fun, so don’t miss out!
