Fishing Report 5th June

Please note that the cafe will be closed tomorrow (6th June). Any anglers fishing tomorrow, just turn up at your chosen venue and the bailiff will see you on the bank.

Last weeks catch was 211 fish which is slightly down on the previous weeks catch total. The fishing as we move through the summer will become more challenging so its important to fish at the right time of day with early mornings and late evenings being the best time. Late evenings have certainly seen plenty of fish rising and remember you can fish through to dusk. The fish will also become sensitive to poor presentation of your fly and in particular thick heavy line so this is the time for finer leader in the 3.5lb to 5lb category and small flies.

The river beats at Vale End and office beat at Weston have fished well with good numbers of wild fish as well as stocked fish coming being caught. The mayfly hatches are pretty much over but sedge and olive patterns will work well going through the summer. The river can be a good place to fish when the weather gets really hot.

Also please remember that the carp fishing lake can be very good on those hot days when the trout fishing is difficult. The carp lake is very clear at the moment so my suggestion would be to try and stalk them using egg, blobs or worm patterns. Fishing on the surface with dog biscuits will also be good fun. There is some weed showing in the lake so I suggest upping your leader to 10lb-12lb to try and stop them diving into the weed.
