What a year so far

albury fishing lodge

Well, what a crazy few months it’s been since we were finally able to re-open after lockdown mainly due to a fantastic campaign by the Angling Trust to get us all out fishing again. Since we re-opened in mid may the support and compliance with covid-19 guidelines has been great and really appreciated. It was a great feeling to see anglers back at the fishery with lots of familiar faces as well as lots of people trying fly fishing for the first time and I can’t tell you how much we appreciate your support during these uncertain times.

The fishing over the summer has, as usual, not been easy especially during the heatwave. The best sport has been in the cooler water, wood lodge and kingfisher pools at Weston and Mill Lake and the river at Vale End with early mornings and evenings being the best time. To increase your chances in the warmer weather it is important to try different tactics and be willing to make changes throughout the day, smaller flies and lighter leaders are recommended, persistence will pay off and you will eventually find something that works if you’re prepared to put the time in.

We are now approaching the end of the traditional season and looking forward to better fishing through the cooler autumn and winter months. Members are reminded that winter season membership is now available to buy online which allows unlimited fishing visits to all our fisheries (excluding the park syndicate). This offers great value at one of the best times of the year all for £125. Season rods can also fish tokens in larger multiples to make further savings.

Anglers are also reminded that day tickets will be available through the winter months at Syon park from 1st October and must be purchased online prior to fishing.

October also heralds the end of the river season so now is your last chance to give the river beats a try. It’s been great to see a lot of anglers try the river for the first time this season and adds another dimension to your fishing day. We intend to make further improvements to all the river beats over the winter months ready for the new river season next April.

Further good news is that the roadworks at the bridge in Albury are coming to an end and the road should be open again within a few weeks.

Other news is that the external toilet on the new fishing lodge is open and we plan to open the other toilets in the near future.

Once again we really appreciate your support in what has been a very difficult season for us all and we all look forward to better times ahead and with the lodge nearing completion it will be an exciting new era for the fishery.

As usual I would like to wish you all our best regards in these strange times. Stay safe.
