As we head through the autumn, fishing continues to improve at all fisheries, particularly Powdermills which is fishing really well at the moment.
Top flies over the past few weeks have been diawl bach, buzzers, small hares ears, ptn, daddy long legs and orange blob. Flies fished slowly or static under an indicator in the top 3 feet of water have produced the best results. Please note that we are draining Belmont lake down at Vale End which will be out of action for a couple of weeks. Mill lake will remain open during this time.Â
We are still having a few problems with swans and coots pulling up patches of weed from the bottom of the lakes, very frustrating after spending so much time weed cutting and clearing this year.
Please bear with us, we are netting this weed off the lakes several times a week which should bring an end to this problem soon.
We are now looking forward to hopefully some drier and colder weather which will see fishing improve further and we are excited to announce we will be receiving a winter stocking of spartic trout in December which will provide great sport.Â
There are still places available for the on the bank demo with Peter Cockwill on the 6th December. The event will run from 9am to 12pm and will cost £5. Please email Cameron if you would like to attend.

Lodge
Just to remind all anglers the lodge cafe will remain open through the winter Tuesday to Friday 8.30 am -3pm, perfect to take shelter from any adverse weather and enjoy some hot food and drink.
Also available in the lodge we have a selection of fly fishing tackle and flies for sale should you need to top up on essentials.
We now stock rods, reels and starter kits, ideal for a Christmas present maybe?
The fishery will be open every day except the 25th December over the festive period.
Most day ticket anglers are now aware they need to visit the lodge before fishing and if season rods have tokens to collect please do this at the lodge too if arriving between the hours of 8:30 -5pm.
Outside of these times the bailiff will see you on the bank.
Returns Can I remind all anglers it is essential to fill out the catch return book at all fisheries and place the correct number of tokens in the boxes, at Weston we have a new shed at the lodge with a second book and token box for anglers using the lodge car park.Â
It saddens me to say we are seeing an increasing amount of angler dishonesty when it comes to completing the catch return, taking fish without placing tokens in the box is plain theft, I’m sure most of you would never consider shoplifting so why a few think its OK to steal fish is beyond me.
It’s unfair to other anglers as it depletes lake stocks and has a huge financial impact on the business.
Ultimately if it continues it will lead to high price rises and potentially the scrapping of the token system altogether, something we don’t want to see as it is quite a unique system and part of the attraction of fishing at Albury.
On a positive note we have some exciting plans for next year, we can’t announce all just yet but there will be an increased number of brown trout stocked and possibly a big surprise, watch this space!
Thanks again to all our anglers for their continued support through what has been one of our worst summers ever and we are all looking forward to some excellent winter fishing. Tight lines and hope to see you all very soon at the Smokery Lodge or the lakes.Â
Stay safe.
